Dental sealants are thin, protective coatings we paint onto the chewing surfaces of your back teeth (molars). They act as a barrier, shielding your enamel from plaque and acids that cause cavities.

The results speak for themselves: sealants prevent 80% of cavities over 2 years in the back teeth—where 9 in 10 cavities occur. School-age children with sealants have almost 3 times fewer cavities than those without them.

When Should You Get Sealants?

It's best to get sealants as soon as molars appear:

• First molars typically come in around age 6
• Second molars appear around age 12

Adults also benefit from dental sealants, especially if you're prone to cavities or have deep grooves in your molars. However, many insurance plans don't cover adult sealants, so we recommend checking with our front desk about your coverage.

The sealant application is simple and comfortable—no drilling or numbing required. We clean the tooth surface, apply the sealant material, and use a special light to harden it. The entire process takes just minutes per tooth.

Important reminder: Sealants are not a replacement for proper dental hygiene. You still need to brush twice daily, floss, and visit us for regular checkups. Think of sealants as an extra layer of protection working alongside your daily care routine.
