When Is a Tooth Extraction Necessary?

We believe in saving your natural teeth whenever possible. Extractions are always a last resort, not our first choice. We'll do everything we can to preserve your tooth before recommending removal.

However, sometimes extraction is the best option for your long-term oral health. We may recommend removing a tooth when it is:

• Severely damaged or decayed beyond repair
• Causing persistent pain that cannot be resolved with other treatments
• Infected in a way that threatens surrounding teeth or bone
• Impacted (such as wisdom teeth) and causing problems
• Blocking other teeth from proper alignment

What to Expect During Your Extraction

Extractions are typically performed under local anesthesia to ensure you're comfortable throughout the procedure. We take our time to make sure you're completely numb before we begin, and we check in with you regularly.

If you're replacing the extracted tooth with a dental implant, we'll usually place a bone graft in the extraction site at the same time. This preserves the bone structure and sets you up for successful implant placement down the road.

Referrals to Oral Surgeons

For certain cases—such as complex extractions, impacted wisdom teeth, or emergency situations—we refer to trusted oral surgeons in the area. We'll coordinate your care and make sure you're in excellent hands.

After Your Extraction

We'll give you clear, written instructions for caring for the extraction site at home. Most patients heal quickly and comfortably when they follow our aftercare guidance. We're always available if you have questions or concerns during your recovery.
