When You Need Us Most

Dental emergencies happen—and when they do, you need care right away. At Hunterdon Family Dental Care, we accept all emergencies and will fit you into our schedule. Whether you're experiencing a severe toothache, a broken tooth, or a knocked-out tooth, call us at 908-236-7800 and we'll see you as soon as possible.

Common Dental Emergencies

The most common dental emergencies we treat are toothaches and broken teeth. Both require immediate attention to relieve pain, prevent infection, and save your tooth when possible.

Toothaches can result from:

  • Dental cavities
  • Fractured or cracked teeth
  • Bite problems
  • Gum infections
  • Tooth impactions

We'll typically take an X-ray to diagnose the problem, then provide the appropriate treatment—whether that's antibiotics, a filling, crown, root canal, bite adjustment, cleaning, extraction, or referral to a specialist.

What to Do If a Tooth Is Knocked Out

Time is critical. Follow these steps and get to our office immediately:

  1. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water
  2. Find the tooth and rinse it gently in cold water—do not touch the root
  3. Keep the tooth moist by placing it in a cup of cold water or milk
  4. Use a cold compress over the injured area to reduce swelling
  5. Call us right away at 908-236-7800

The sooner we can re-implant the tooth, the better the chance of saving it.

Advanced Pain Relief with Fotona Laser Technology

In addition to traditional emergency treatments, we offer Fotona Laser Technology for fast, gentle relief of:

  • Cold sores and canker sores
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Jaw and facial muscle pain
  • Mucositis
  • Post-surgery recovery

This advanced technology can provide immediate comfort while we address the underlying issue.

Common questions
What should I do if I have a severe toothache after hours?+

Call our office at 908-236-7800. In the meantime, rinse your mouth with warm salt water, use dental floss to remove any trapped food, and apply a cold compress to the outside of your face to reduce swelling. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum, as it can burn the tissue.

Can you save a tooth that's been knocked out?+

Yes, if you act quickly. Rinse the tooth gently without touching the root, keep it moist in cold water or milk, and get to our office immediately. The sooner we can re-implant it, the better the chance of success.

Do you accept emergency patients who aren't regular patients?+

Absolutely. We accept all dental emergencies and will fit you into our schedule, whether you're a current patient or new to our practice. Your comfort and oral health come first.
